Restaurant Review

Jevnik - Wuse 2
This is a restaurant that serves mostly Nigerian menu. If you're looking for authenticity look no further. My sister and I went to visit my uncle at his store and he decided to take us for a late lunch/early dinner. When we got to the restaurant, it was packed full a reflection of how good their food is. My uncle was explaining that it wasn't that packed, however, if we came during the actual dinner time that we will not be able to find any available seats. So we were quite happy to be seated. We placed our order and in no time, our food was already served. The service was super fast seeing how busy they were. I went with the plantain porridge, my sis with the fish pepper soup, and my uncle had swallow and vegetable soup.
My plate was overflowing, wow! the look on my face must have been sending them a code red - starving chick alert treat with caution hahahahaha. My meal could have lasted me for 2 extra meals and if I was still leaving by myself I would have had enough to feed myself for at least 2 straight days hahahaha. Oh did I mention that I also ordered their grilled fish (I think it's grilled can't remember anymore) but it was hmmm hmmm good. I managed to get thru half of the meal, it was so tasty but I really had to stop myself. My pant's zipper and button were already giving me the signal. My sister had to help me out with the remaining portion. Now the interesting thing to me was that the plantain used in this dish was unripe and I usually like my plantain porridge made with ripe plantains (I have a very sweet tooth) but I still found the meal enjoyable. It was just spiced to perfection.
I tasted my sister's fish pepper soup and it was not bad at all. Once we cleared off our plate and settled our bills it was time to get up and lets just say it involved a lot of belly holding. Okay I was overstuffed. This was the kind of meal that once you are done, the next thing you should be looking for is a bed. Kinda reminds me of the Boondocks episode "The Itis" - hillarious episode.
This is definitely going down as one of my fav chow spot in Abuja. But then again there are still a lot of restaurants out there waiting to be checked out.
Cost: low - medium

  1. I'm so impressed that the restaurant business in Nigeria is blooming with a huge demand base.
Who would have thought this about 20 years ago?

I know it will take more than great restaurants for me to go to Naija for a visit but I'm happy that we're progressing beyond akara/moimoi from the street vendor next to an over flowing gutter- nothing wrong with small businesses aka sole proprietors, it is the unsanitary aspect of it that puts people at risk.

  2. The restaurant business in Nigeria especially Abuja has exploded. You will see restaurants that will rival any restaurant in the States. The only problem is that they are quite expensive. Think $40 and upwards. It's not for the masses.
